12/24/2002 Side Affects from Yesterday

Please be aware that one of the consequences of yesterday's outage is that emails sent to addresses hosted by MosquitoNet were bounced back to the sender as undeliverable. This includes @mosquitonet.com, @chena.net, @icefog.net, and @skeeto.net addresses. Again, we apologize for the loss of service.

Yours,
The Skeeto Staff

12/24/2002 Domain Restored

We will be posting updates informing you of our progress on the MosquitoNet and ACS web pages weekly beginning 12/27/02. We sincerely appreciate and value our customers and will do everything possible to earn your ISP business.

12/23/2002 Domain Outage

Due to accounting errors the MosquitoNet domain expired. The domain has been renewed and should be available at 9:00 this evening AKST. This should improve the issue immediately, but some services will not be restored for up to 24 hours afterwards due to the nature of DNS.

We understand the seriousness of this problem, and hope that you will bear with us while it gets worked out. We thank you for your patience, and apologize for any trouble that this has caused you.
Yours,
The Skeeto Staff

9/17/2002Service Restored
The service outage beginning at 10:00 AM on 9/17/2002 ended at 11:20 AM. Internet connectivity should be completely restored at this point.

The problem had to do with our upstream provider who corrected the problem, and is now looking into the causes.

We appreciated your patience during this outage, and apologize for any inconvenience that it may have caused you.

Thanks for using MosquitoNet!
The Skeeto Staff

9/17/2002 Network Outage
Update: 10:30 AM There doesn't seem to be a local fiber cut, and it looks as though there is trouble in Seattle with a router there. As we learn more about the current outage, which started at 10:00 AM, we will post that info here.
The answer to the question "Is the Internet down?" is "Yes."
We are working as quickly as we can to restore connectivity.
Thank you for your patience,
The Skeeto Staff

9/5/2002 Service Complete
AlasConnect completed the necessary service on our fiber equipment, and in short order! Internet connectivity was disrupted for less than five minutes, and everthing is up and running fine with no errors. We hope that this caused no hardship for anyone.

Thanks for your patience,
The Skeeto Staff

9/4/2002 Service Outage
There will be a short scheduled outage to service our fiber service, early Friday afternoon. The outage is expected to last only 1 to 5 minutes.

Thanks,
The Skeeto Staff

6/7/02 Network Outage
Our upstream provider (Alaska Fiber Star) has come up with a temporary solution to their fiber cut. This means that Internet traffic has been restored. They will be working on a more permanent solution over the weekend. This could mean that we might be seeing small outages throughout the weekend, but nothing as long as we saw today. Again, we apologize for the inconvenience this caused, and we thank you for your patience and understanding.
Thanks,
The Skeeto Staff

6/7/02 Network Outage
Arg! Our upstream provider is having some serious network trouble, thus causing the current network outage. They are working as quickly as they can to restore service. We apologize for the inconvenience, and if we learn more, we will post it here.

Update: AFS has estimated the repair will be completed about noon. *This is an estimate, repairs could be shorter, or longer.*

Thanks,
The Skeeto Staff

11/27/2001>New Virus Alert
Numerous reports have been filtering in about a new virus/worm called "W32.Badtrans.B@mm". It isn't terribly destructive, but it is virulent, and spreading rapidly. It is recommended that you update your anti-virus software immediately (and regularly).

8/29/01 Web Trouble
Our Cache proxy (a server that speeds up web browsing) was not serving pages like it was supposed to, and ended up blocking a lot of web sites. The problem has been fixed, and things are back to normal. We apologize for the brief outage!

7/7/01 ACS Acquires MosquitoNet
On Friday, July 6th, ACS and MosquitoNet completed negotiations, resulting in the sale of MosquitoNet to ACS. To read more about this exciting development, and what great new services it will mean to you, look here.

6/26/01 Network Outage

1/8/01 Short Outage
We are expecting a 10 minute outage from one of our upstream providers, between the hours of 4:30AM and 7:00AM, Tuesday, January 9th. The effect on MosquitoNet customers should be unnoticable, given the low utilization at that hour.

12/20/2000 Disruption of News Service
It seems that at about 9:30pm last night our news provider (a company called GrapeVine) went down. This will affect any customers who use our news service (news.mosquitonet.com). MosquitoNet has contacted GrapeVine and they are in the process of repairing their servers. The estimated time for service to be continued is sometime tomorrow (12/21/2000). MosquitoNet would like to apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

10/16/00 E-Mail Restored -- 4:15am
Full email functionality has been restored, and all servers are operating correctly and smoothly. We understand that email is crucial to you, and apologize humbly for the outage. There should be no missing email, just delayed mail.
Again, we apologize for the disruption in service, and thank you for your patience.

10/15/00 E-Mail Outage -- 11:00pm
What a weekend! Due to overheating, our mail server has failed. Our sysadmin staff is busy replacing the necessary hardware, and things will be back up shortly. You have our sincere apologies!
Stay tuned for more news!

10/14/00 SERVICE RESTORED
Restoration of our Internet connectivity happened at about 1:30. As suspected, the problem was at the remote end, at our providers end. We apologize for the poor performance, and will be taking steps to ensure that any future fumbles can't have the same impact as this. Thank you for your patience, and thanks for supporting MosquitoNet!

10/13/00 INTERNET OUTAGE

Service was restored at 10:15pm, and things are back to normal... Woohoo!

9/28/00 HARDWARE SALE HAD A GREAT TURNOUT
MosquitoNet's old PC hardware sale was a success. Folks got good prices and good stuff, and we got rid of a room full of unwanted parts. Yay!
Thanks to all the folks that showed up, and special thanks to the computer enthusiasts from campus that cleaned us out later in the day!

9/11/00 ADDITIONAL LINES
In anticipation of increased Internet usage as cooler weather arrives (don't dare say "Winter"), we've added 24 more modem lines to ensure that you don't ever get a busy signal, and your connections are nice and speedy.

9/19/00 SERVICE OUTAGE UPDATE
2:35 AM Tuesday: We have completed a workaround so that traffic may pass normally, though our total capacity is less than it should be. We regret that we were not able to make this modification sooner, but it took a while to convince the folks in Seattle to take the necessary steps.

9/1/00 LABOR DAY
In observance of Labor Day (Monday, September 1), our offices will be closed. Our offices will reopen on Tuesday morning, at 9am, our usual hours. Have a great weekend!

8/7/00 PHONE CARDS ON SALE
We have phone cards available at our 530 7th Avenue office. Great rates from 2 cents per minute to 5.5 cents per minute on calls to the US. The cards offer terrific international rates as well. These work (we've used 'em), and we are happy to offer them to you.

8/25/00 BRIEF OUTAGE
One of our transport providers, GCI, is scheduling a brief repair outage for the early morning of Sunday, August 27th. The window of time is from 1:00AM to 6:00AM, and may last up to 2 hours. Mosquitonet service won't be disrupted, due to redundancy, though customers might see slightly reduced speed.

6/27/00 CUSTOMER CHATROOM NOW UP
Have a friend in the "Lower 48?" Give them this website (chat.mosquitonet.com) and you can type forever, and it's in real time! You can have a party in the MosquitoNet chat room!! Invite friends, family, or anyone else you can think of. Or you can come in and testify as to how much you LOVE MosquitoNet!! Just open a new window and point your browser to http://chat.mosquitonet.com.

6/27/00 MOSQUITONET TECHNICAL SUPPORT
MosquitoNet is temporarily experiencing troubles with phone calls to our technical support and customer service office due to phone line problems. Thanks to our friends at the phone company, we have a workaround in place, but calls still may have trouble now and again. For fun, you might try our MosquitoNet Online Chat ( http://chat.mosquitonet.com) to talk to a service representative.
6/1/00 SERVICE INTERRUPTION
Our backbone provider, Bridge Networks (also known as Savvis, Inc), has informed us that there may be a 15 minute interruption in service, as they perform maintenance on routers in the Seattle area. The outage will occur in the morning of Tuesday, June 6, sometime between 1am and 2am.
5/30/00
RESUME VIRUS (click here for details)
Bored college computer science majors are at it again. This resume virus carries a "Medium" grade from McAfee but everyone should be on the lookout for it, as it can be very damaging. It is a worm based on the tried and true Melissa virus of sometime ago. There is no quick fix, eternal vigilance is the key.
5/26/00 NEW SERVICE AGREEMENT (click here for details)
We have made some changes to our Service Agreement, specifically addressing our position on sending SPAM, publishing pornographic materials, among other changes.
5/19/00 NEWLOVE .VBS VIRUS (click here for details)
We are sad to report that a virus, or "worm", similar to the much lamented "Love Letter" virus has been found. This virus is far more damaging than its predecessor, and the only recovery possible is to reinstall all software, once the virus has run. Prevention is key.
5/4/00 LOVE LETTER VIRUS (click here for fix)
MosquitoNet has learned of a new virus, one that McAfee assessed as a "High-Outbreak" risk, called the "Love Letter" virus. While it is a nasty little script-virus, there is an easily applied fix.
4/28/00 ADDITIONAL PHONE LINES (click here for more information)
MosquitoNet has ordered 24 more phone lines (a full T-1) so that our customers won't experience anymore busy signals during peak usage. Like you, MosquitoNet doesn't like busy signals, and with this purchase we hope to get rid of these busy signals. We thank you for your continuing patience during this time.
4/22/00 SPAM EMAIL
MosquitoNet doesn't like spam anymore than you do, so we've teamed up with the Mail Abuse Prevention System to block unwanted email from your accounts. Using realtime blocking features and massive databases, MAPS is able to dynamically block spam from ever entering MosquitoNet's email system. If you ever get Spam, forward the message with complete headers to abuse@mosquitonet.com and we will get rid of it.
4/17/00 GREAT COUPON VALUES
MosquitoBucks has added even greater values for our customers. Have a pager? Get 1 month free service from Metrocall at MosquitoBucks. Like music? Who doesn't? Go to MosquitoBucks and get 20% off your next purchase at the Beat Garden on College Road.
