Mallory Bergstrom continues to pound away at the opposition for the University of Alaska Fairbanks women's volleyball team.
In last Friday's three-game sweep of Saint Martin's College at the Patty Center, Bergstrom set a Great Northwest Athletic Conference record for a three-game match with a bombing 27 kills and had an attack percentage of .523.
She added 23 kills in Satuday's disappointing five-game loss to Central Washington. Her weekend totals of 50 (6.25 per game) kills and 33 digs earned her Great Northwest Athletic Conference Co-Player of the Week honors.
It marks the third time this season that the 5-foot-11 junior outside hitter from Bend, Ore., has been honored by the conference.
Bergstrom has four of the top 10 single-match kills totals in the conference this season. All four have come in either three- or four-game matches, while the other six have all come in five-game matches.
If Bergstrom continues to post the numbers she has put up in recent matches, her season totals will likely rank among UAF's top 10 all-time single-season marks for kills, digs and attack percentage.
So far this season, she has 387 kills for an average of 4.72 per games and an attack percentage of .245.
Her kill total already ranks fourth on the all-time single-season list and her attack percentage is eigth.
She has 331 digs so far this year for an average of 4.05 per game. She would need to get 36 digs this weekend to climb into the top 10 for a single season.
Bergstrom also is amassing some very impressive career totals with one year remaining at UAF.
Through last Saturday's match, she has 868 kills for an average of 3.4 per game and has 829 digs for an average of 3.25 per game.
She already ranks fifth on the all-time kills list and trails all-time leader Stephanie Grindel (1,023) by just 155. Tiffani Pulver is second with 968, Colleen Smith is third with 918 and Ruth Peterson is fourth with 877.
Bergstrom's 829 digs rank sixth on the all-time list. Jen Medl is fifth with 908 and the all-time leader is Pulver with 1,484.
