Season Recap:

1996 Review: UAF finished the season on a high note by winning the University of Alaska Anchorage Invitational Tournament and achieving a season record of 18-14. This is the first time since volleyball was adopted at UAF in 1979 that back-to-back winning seasons have been put together. The Nanooks were ranked 7th in the Northwest Region at the end of the season. The Nanooks finished the season in 4th place in the Pacific West Conference with a conference record of 6-6. The UAF Nanook volleyball team played a significantly difficult schedule this season. They played 17 matches against NCAA Division II teams who were regionally ranked and had a record of 7-10 against these teams. Against unranked teams the Nanooks were 11-4. Things are looking bright for the 1997 season as only 1 of the 16 players on this year's roster was a Senior. If you have not made plans to watch the Nanook volleyball team next season you should plan to do so as they bring many of the better Division II teams in the country to Fairbanks, and next season starts on August 29th with a Division I tournament. Help them to make the step up to a winning record against ranked teams next season by packing the Patty Center.

Inaugural 1997 Nanook Classic: The UAF Patty Center will be the site of the Nanook Classic Volleyball Tournament on August 29 - 31. This tournament will feature the UAF Nanooks and three Division 1 teams, Weber State University, Tennessee State University and Utah State University.

1997 Recruits: Head coach, Tim Brown, has announced that Melissa Smith, a 6'0" middle blocker from Palmer, AK, and Stephanie Grindel , a 5'8" outside hitter/middle blocker from North Pole, AK have agreed to join the UAF program next year.

Awards Ceremony: Tiffani Pulver, was named the Most Valuable Player for the 1996 University of Alaska Fairbanks volleyball team. Pulver, a Junior, established a new career record for most digs with 1,318.
